APNA’s 18th annual conference in San Diego was a huge success! Denise Collins of Aunt Ann’s agency did an amazing job of lining up a range of speakers and activities that were both informative and fun. I was particularly impressed with the agencies that brought staff members, and the new agencies that made the investment to attend. A special thanks again to our sponsors, speakers, and exhibitors who made the conference possible. Next year’s conference planners will be Jami Dennis and Ginger Swift of ABC Nannies, and our target location is somewhere on the east coast. We hope to see you there!

Nannies & Housekeepers USA:
2011 Agency of the Year

AOTY 2011
2011 AOTY Winner, Lexy Capp with 2010 winner, Erin Krex

At the 2011 annual APNA conference, Nannies & Housekeepers USA from Las Vegas won the coveted title of Agency of the Year. The conference attendees made their selection after viewing their video submission, along with other candidates: A Nanny for U and Annie’s Nannies, both from Seattle. Showing that they best exemplified the theme Leading By Example – Defining Ourselves in a Changing Industry, Nannies & Housekeepers USA accepted the award from outgoing Agency of the Year, First Class Care, of Chicago.

Before announcing the winner on Saturday evening, a rousing game of “Are You Smarter than The Agency of the Year?” was played with hosts Barbara Siegel and Judi Merlin.  Kathy Dupuy did her best Vanna White impersonation as their lovely assistant.  The contestants were representatives from the three competing agencies: Suzanne McCone from Annie’s Nannies, Rita Ferency from Nannies & Housekeepers USA, and Kristin Wightman from A Nanny for U.  They matched their wits and wisdom with Erin Krex, the 2010 Agency of the Year winner.  Suzanne, who played very aggressively on the buzzer (whether or not she knew the answer!), was the winner of the game.  She won fame, recognition, honor, and absolutely nothing else.

Erin then presented Lexy Capp, founder and owner of Nannies & Housekeepers USA, with a beautiful engraved glass vase, a priceless tiara, and a fashion-forward sash.  Blushing, Lexy said it reminded her of when she was crowned homecoming queen a little more than several decades ago, and then she ran out of the room to call her mother.  Lexy later said, “This award means so much more than the crown… it is a thank you from my respected peers and fellow business owners.”  A big congratulations to Lexy and her team!
