During the latest podcast from The Small Business Radio Show, the host, Barry Moltz, interviewed Boston-based consultant Roberta Matuson, a workplace strategist. She talks about businesses needing to become concierge recruiters to attract the best talent, “you have to be the one to shepherd this talent into your organization”.
In this 20-minute interview, Ms. Matuson explores the idea that it is not that people do not want to work, it is that they do not want to work for you. (Ouch) She uses the example of a recent shopping trip and finding Apple stores having no shortage of employees working, while at Macy’s it was hard to find anyone to help her.
Paying a competitive wage is no longer the best reason for an employee to choose to work for you. Here are the top 3 take-aways:
1 – Be a Magnetic Leader – Be the person everyone wants to work for and follow you to the next job. Are you personally connecting with not only your staff, but your placements?
2 – Build Your Brand – What is your business’s uniqueness? How does your business present itself to the outside world? Not just for the families you are helping, but to the caregivers you are recruiting.
3 – Invest in your People – Along with your employees, your recruits for placements are an investment. Besides competitive wages, what else do you offer that sets you apart? Assistance with continuing education, relevant training, health or wellness benefits?
Wishing you all a successful 2022!
