Wow, these last few months have flown by! I can’t believe it’s almost May… Several times in the last few weeks I’ve been so busy I’ve literally forgotten what month it is (#truth). But unlike previous years, where I might have felt overwhelmed and frustrated by my ever-growing task list, this year I feel nothing but pure gratitude, maybe even a touch of joy that the days are full. Just last year we were isolated, alone, hoping and praying our businesses would survive. I’ve chosen to see this busy time as a gift. We made it. We are the fortunate ones. And what a blessing it is that life is slowly returning to normal. For the first time in several years, I was able to attend the International Nanny Association conference in Las Vegas. It so was lovely to be back. I hugged long-time friends, connected with other industry professionals, and was honored to receive my 20-Year Service Pin. Thank you, INA, for bringing us together and for hosting a great conference. We look forward to returning the favor and welcoming many INA agency owners/members to our upcoming conference in San Diego in October.
In addition to planning the 2022 conference (which you are going to love, btw) your APNA Board of Directors has been busy. We excitedly welcomed Jay Schulze, of HomeWork Solutions, to the board, in April. He is assuming the role of Treasurer within the association. Jay’s a wealth of knowledge and a true value-add. Our former Treasurer, Laura Chandra, of Boston Nanny Centre, Inc, is currently developing APNA’s Agency Accelerator Program. Our hope is that this 6-month program – designed to help grow young agencies into profitable and successful businesses long-term – will expand and diversify our industry. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics nearly 50% of small businesses fail within the first five years, and for BIPOC-owned businesses the statistics are even grimmer… We must improve the odds for all entrepreneurs within our industry, and we believe this is program will have a positive impact.
Stay tuned for more information on our 2022 conference (registration is opening soon) and APNA’s new Accelerator Program. And until we see each other again friends, appreciate the busy months ahead and try take a moment each day to find joy in the amazing work you do.
Warmly,
Jami Dennis
APNA President
